Due to this, researchers have started large scale studies to find the best exercise protocols for fat loss. Two popular terms in the studies that investigate the effects of exercise training on fat loss are Maximal Fat Oxidation (MFO) and fatmax (exercise intensity which the maximum fat oxidation is occurred). In this study MFO, fatmaxand studies which assess the effect of exercise on fat oxidation are reviewed. Although a lot of research has been done to determine fatmax, the data are inconsistent. However, most researchers believe that the highest amount of lipid oxidation occurs at low to moderate intensities ranging from 35 to 65% of vo2max.

Fatmax, MFO}IntroductionRecent findings show that increased dietary protein intake could significantly reduce the body weight and fat mass in overweight individuals. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of one session of progressive training after two modes of whey protein supplementation on the maximal fat oxidation (MFO), Fatmax, and insulin resistance in overweight women.MethodsThis clinical trial study was conducted with a pretest-posttest design on an experimental group consisting of 15 overweight women in Mashhad, Iran in 2016. At 7-10 day intervals, Fatmax, MFO, and insulin resistance index were measured in three stages of no whey protein consumption and at 30 and 75 minutes after whey protein loading during one session of progressive training until failure. Data collection tool was the ELISA kit. Data analysis was performed in SPSS version 16.0 using the analysis of variance (ANOVA), and P-value of less than 0.05 was considered significant.ResultsNo significant differences were observed in the MFO and Fatmax in the three stages of the study (P>0.05). However, the insulin resistance index was significant in the three stages compared to the fasting state (PConclusionAccording to the results, whey protein supplementation at 30 and 75 minutes before progressive training has no effect on the MFO and Fatmax, while it could increase insulin resistance.Keywords: MFO, Fatmax, Whey Protein, Overweight} -
زمینه و هدفاضافه وزن وچاقی از جمله ناهنجاری های بدنی است که می تواند از جوانب مختلف، سلامتی را تهدید کند. در مطالعات مختلف انجام گرفته در این زمینه، فعالیت منظم ورزشی (تمرین ورزشی) به عنوان عاملی برای بهبود ترکیب بدن و آمادگی قلبی- تنفسی در افراد دچار اضافه وزن و چاقی معرفی شده است. با این حال، میزان شدت فعالیت، به عنوان یکی از اصول تمرین، در تجویز تمرینات با هدف کاهش وزن، هنوز چالش برانگیز است. مطالعات بسیاری با هدف تعیین بهترین شدت تمرینی برای دستیابی به بیشترین میزان چربی سوزی انجام شده است که تحت عنوان FATmax شناخته می شود. این مقاله سعی در مرور مطالعاتی دارد که در مورد فواید شدت های مختلف تمرینی تحقیق کرده و نتایج خود را گزارش کرده اند.روش کاراین مطالعه به صورت مروری به تحقیقاتی می پردازد که تاثیرات تمرینات با شدت FATmax را بررسی کرده اند. به این منظور کلیه مطالعات مرتبط با عناوین مورد بحث، صرف نظر از سال انجام آن ها، استفاده شده است و تنها مقالاتی مورد استناد قرار گرفته اند که در مجلات دارای ضریب تاثیر بیشتر از یک انتشار یافته اند.یافته هابر طبق تعریف ارائه شده در بیشتر مطالعات، FATmax بیانگر شدتی از فعالیت ورزشی است که بیشترین متابولیسم چربی در آن اتفاق می افتد و در هر فردی متفاوت و قابل اندازه گیری است. بر طبق بررسی نتایج مطالعات، FATmax به طور متوسط در شدت بین 39% تا 65% VO2max اتفاق می افتد و می تواند از ژنتیک، جنسیت، ترکیب بدن، سطح فعالیت بدنی و رژیم غذایی افراد تاثیر بپذیرد. تعیین شدت FATmax، قبل از تجویز تمرین، هم در افراد سالم و هم در بیماران، به آگاهی فرد تمرین دهنده از وضعیت متابولیک وزشکار و کنترل بهتر آن جهت سهولت در نیل به هدف تمرین، بسیار کمک کننده خواهد بود. علی رغم موثر بودن این روش تمرینی، هنوز پرسش های بسیاری مطرح است، ازجمله اینکه آیا این نوع تمرینات بر دیگر تمرینات، مانند تمرینات تناوبی شدید ارجحیت دارد یا خیر، که پاسخ به آن ها تحقیقات بیشتری در این زمینه می طلبد.نتیجه گیریمرور مطالعات نشان می دهد که یافتن شدت FATmax در هر فرد می تواند به طراحی بهینه تمرین با هدف چربی سوزی کمک موثری کند. با این حال بیشتر مطالعات انجام شده در این زمینه روی افراد سالم و افراد دارای اضافه وزن متوسط انجام شده است. این مطالعه مروری نشان داد که برای اظهار نظر قطعی درباره ارجحیت تجویز تمرینات FATmax، نسبت به سایر پروتکل های تمرینی، هنوز نتایج کافی در دست نیست و بهتر است مطالعاتی با هدف مقایسه این نوع تمرینات با انواع پروتکل های تمرینی، بر روی اقشار مختلف و همچنین بررسی دقیق تر نتایج بیولوژیک تمرینات FATmax طراحی و انجام شود.کلید واژگان: FATmax, متابولیسم چربی, تمرینات تداومی}BackgroundOverweight and obesity, as physical disorders, can threaten health in different ways. Regular exercise (training) is defined as an improving factor for body composition and cardiorespiratory fitness in overweight and obese people. However, the intensity of exercise, as one of the training principles, for attaining the highest fat burning effect, is still challenged. This paper reviewed the studies that have investigated the benefits of different intensities of exercise on fat burning.MethodsThis paper provides an overview of the researches that have investigated the effects of exercise with intensity of FATmax, disregard the date of published material. Journals with impact factor ≥1 have been documented.ResultsAccording to most of the studies, FATmax presents an intensity of exercise that the greatest fat metabolism rate occurred in which varies and is measurable in different individuals. According to the results of investigations, FATmax occurs between the range of 39 to 65%VO2max and can be affected by genetics, gender, body composition, physical activity level and diet. It can be helpful to determine FATmax intensity, before exercise prescribing in both healthy and unhealthy individuals. So, the trainer could be aware of metabolic situation of client for better control and reaching the training goal. Although this method of practice is effective, there are a lot of questions in this regard. Whether this type of training is preferred to other exercise protocols, such as high intensity interval training or not, is still unclear and needs more research.ConclusionThe literature review showed that determining the FATmax intensity can lead to the optimal training design to help effective fat burning. However, many of investigations in this regard are performed on healthy and mild overweight people. This review showed that there is not enough evidence to prefer the FATmax training to other exercise protocols. More studies are needed in different groups to compare this type of training with others, with certain determination of biologic pathways in FATmax training.Keywords: FATmax, fat metabolism, continuous training}

IntroductionThe intensity and duration of exercises are the main factors of fat oxidation and carbohydrate during the exercise. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of prolonged and graded exercise protocols on maximal fat oxidation (MFO) and Fatmax in trained girls.MethodsTen trained girls (age = 22.3 ±1.8 years old; weight= 53.3±3.4 kg; BMI= 20.6 ± 1.1 kg/m2 and VO2max= 34.2±2 ml/kg/min), attended the laboratory on seven separate occasions. In the first visit, anthropometrics and maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max) measurements were assessed. In the second session, participants completed a submaximal graded exercise protocol with seven stages, 3 min per stages at intensity of 35, 40, 45, 50, 55, 60 and 65% of VO2max. Next, each participant in five separate sessions consisting of 30 min prolonged exercises performed exercises in a counterbalanced order of intensity at 40, 45, 50, 55 and 60% VO2max. For statistical analysis of data Shapiro Wilk and paired sample t-test (p≤0.05) were used.ResultsThe results showed that there was a significant difference between MFO (p=0.01) and Fatmax (p=0.04) after graded and prolonged exercises.ConclusionIt appears that prolonged exercise caused a higher MFO and Fatmax rather than graded exercise in trained girls.Keywords: Graded Exercise, Prolonged Exercise, Maximal Fat Oxidation, Fatmax}

The exercise intensity, at which the maximal fat oxidation (MFO) rate occurs, has been defined as Fatmax. It has been suggested that the fat oxidation rate during the Fatmax intensity is approximately 2-fold greater than at any other intensity although modifiable by several physiological conditions (training, previous exercise or meal). There are a few standardized protocols for estimating of Fatmax. The most common tests include: Cycle Ergometer (CE) and Treadmill (TM). Reviewing of tables of the study appoint that the extent of weight or fat loss in response to exercise training varies among individuals.

BackgroundThe purpose of this study was to determine appropriate intensity of activity with FATmax during incremental exercise in the active and sedentary male participants.Material And MethodsIn this study, 11 active male students(VO2max42.87±1.75ml.kg-1.min-1,BMI 21.40±1.01 kg.m2) and 9 sedentary male students(VO2max36.57±2.95ml.kg-1.min-1, BMI 24.28±1.83kg.m2) were selected as the active and sedentary groups. Participants performed an incremental test with three minutes intervals on the treadmill. Exercise intensity was measured in all phases by measuring oxygen consumption. Also, heart rate and the fat oxidation was measured using indirect calorimetric. Independent t-test was used to compare the mean FATmax in the two groups. Also two-way analysis of variance(ANOVA) with repeated measurements was used to compare FATmax at 7 levels of exercise intensity between the two groups at α≤0.05 confidence interval level. Also, the Pearson correlation coefficient was used to measure the relationship between VO2max and maximal fat oxidation(MFO).ResultsThere was no significant difference between FAT max of the active and sedentary groups, in terms of VO2max and HRmax percentage, but the difference between MFO in the active and sedentary groups was significant(p=0.001). The results also showed that there are significant differences in fat oxidation during 7 levels of intensity training between the active and sedentary males(p=0.001). Also, there was a significant correlation between VO2max and FATmax of two groups(p=0.002).ConclusionBased on the results, it can be concluded that the active participants, due to their physiological adaptations with exercise, showed significant higher fat oxidation at FATmax point and all phases of exercise intensity.Keywords: maximal fat oxidation, FATmax, exercise intensity, indirect calorimetry}
