The current comprehensive scoping review aimed to provide an overview of highly cited articles published in the “Iranian Endodontic Journal” (IEJ), based on the IEJ’s H-index (=29); highlighting their key findings and prominent implications in the field of endodontics.

    Materials and Methods

A systematic search was conducted in Scopus database to identify the top 29 highly cited published articles. The articles were selected based on their citation count (h-index); reflecting their impact and influence within the scientific community. Data extraction was performed to gather relevant information; including authors, titles, publication years, and the main topic(s) of each article.

    Results

The selected highly cited published articles covered a broad range of endodontic topics; demonstrating the diversity and depth of research in the field. Key findings include significant contributions in vital pulp therapy, antimicrobial agents, root canal disinfection, regenerative techniques, cone-beam computed tomography applications, and intracanal medicaments. The distribution of research areas reflects the importance of evidence-based practice in clinical decision-making and patient care.

    Conclusions

These highly cited published articles have shown to have substantial impact on the field of endodontics. They have influenced clinical practice, guided research directions, and have improved patient care. The summary of key findings from each topic and the number of articles related to each area can provide readers with valuable insights into the distribution of research areas, and the significance of contributions made by the aforementioned highly cited published articles.

    Introduction
Propolis is a resinous substance produced by honeybees. Despite antimicrobial properties, tooth discoloration has been reported during its application as intracanal medicament. The aim of this study was to assess the effect of intracanal propolis removal on crown discoloration.
    Methods
In this experimental study, after access cavity and canal preparation was performed in 40 intact anterior teeth, they were divided into three groups. In group 1 propolis was placed in the canal and pulp chamber while in group 2, it was applied into the canal only. The canals of third group were filled with distilled water as control. After six months, labial surfaces of all teeth were digitally photographed by a digital camera. Propolis was then completely removed and photography was repeated. Tooth color was evaluated in the labial surface using CIE Lab system and Photoshop software.
    Results
Overall color change (ΔE), change in lightness (ΔL), greenness-redness (Δa) and blueness-yellowness (Δb) were analyzed. ΔL and Δa values were significantly different in all three groups (p <0.001). The difference between groups 1 and 2 was not significant for ΔL or Δa, but groups 1 and 3 were significantly different in ΔL and Δa (p <0.001). Groups 2 and 3 were significantly different in ΔL and Δa (p <0.001).
    Conclusion
Coronal discoloration after six-month application of propolis as intracanal medicament was not reversed by its removal. Location of application of propolis (in the canal or both canal and pulp chamber) had no significant effect on degree of coronal discoloration.

    Background And Objective
Pulpectomy is one of the most common treatments for preserving infected primary teeth. Intracanal medicaments have been used to decrease the amount of microorganism. The purpose of present study was to evaluate and compare the antimicrobial effect of some medicaments (formocresol, CMCP and 0.2% chlorhexidine) against some common bacteria isolated from infected primary teeth. Subjects and
    Methods
In this experimental study fifty primary canine teeth were prepared and were randomly divided into 5 groups (n = 10). After sterilization, suspension of bacteria (Streptococcus mutans, Bacillus subtilis, Enterococcus faecalis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) were inoculated into each canal. Cotton soaked in normal saline as a positive control; and cotton soaked in Formocresol; CMCP and 0.2% chlorhexidine were placed in canal groups(2 to 4). The antibacterial effect of each medicament was evaluated by determining the percentage reduction in colony counts (RCC %) and CFU (colony-forming units) on day 3 after exposure. Kruskal-Wallis test, Dunn's test and SPSS 22 were used to analyze the data.
    Results
All experimental groups showed a significant decrease in bacterial counts in compassion with control group (P < 0.05). 0.2% chlorhexidine showed significantly lower efficacy compared to formocresol and CMCP group (P < 0.05).
    Conclusion
According to the present study formocresol and CMCP have good antimicrobial effect.

    Background
The aim of this ex vivo study was to compare the antimicrobial effect of triantibiotic paste, 0.2% chlorhexidine gel, Propolis and Aloe vera on Enterococcus faecalis in deep dentin.
    Materials And Methods
Ninety fresh extracted single-rooted teeth were used in a dentin block model. Seventy-fi ve teeth were infected with E. faecalis and divided into four experimental groups (n = 15). Experimental groups were treated with triantibiotic mixture with distilled water, 0.2% chlorhexidine gel, 70% ethanol + Propolis and Aloe vera. Fifteen teeth treated with distilled water as the positive control and 15 samples, free of bacterial contamination, were considered as the negative control. Gates- Glidden drill #4 was used for removal of surface dentin and Gates-Glidden drill #5 was used to collect samples of deep dentin. The samples were prepared and colony-forming units were counted. Data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and post hoc Tukey tests. Statistical signifi cance was defi ned at P < 0.05.
    Results
Triantibiotic mixture group exhibited the least bacterial growth. However, the rate of bacterial growth showed no signifi cant differences between chlorhexidine and Propolis groups (P > 0.05). Aloe vera had antibacterial effects on E. faecalis, but in comparison with other medicaments, it was less effective (P < 0.05).
    Conclusion
This experimental study showed that triantibiotic mixture, 0.2% chlorhexidine gel, Propolis and Aleo vera were relatively effective against E. faecalis. All the intracanal medicements had similar effects on E. faecalis in deep dentin except for Aloe vera.
