Background
Child obesity is an increasing trend in Thailand. Increasing physical activity is therefore necessary.
ObjectivesThe purposes of this study were to investigate the effect of a walking intervention program on the self-efficacy, physical activity (PA), and physical fitness of obese children in Thailand and to examine whether self-efficacy mediated changes in PA and physical fitness.
MethodsA total of 42 children aged 6-19 years were randomized into two parallel groups: a control group (n=21) and an intervention group (n=21) who participated in the walking physical activity enhancement program for 8 weeks. Self-efficacy, %body fat, cardiovascular endurance, sedentary behavior (SB), steps, metabolic equivalents (METs), light PA (LPA), and moderate to vigorous PA (MVPA) were measured at baseline and after the end of the intervention. Multivariate analysis of variance tests was performed. METs and steps scores were highly positive; a composite score was created (i.e., Mets-Steps). Path analysis was conducted for mediation testing.
ResultsCompared to the control group, the intervention group had a significant increase in self-efficacy (p<0.05), Mets-Steps (p<0.01), and the MVPA (p<0.01) at the end of the program, while % body fat (p=0.41), cardiovascular endurance (p=0.11), SB (p=0.22), and LPA (p=0.31) were unaffected. Self-efficacy did not significantly mediate the effect of the intervention on METs-Steps and MVPA.
ConclusionThe intervention can increase self-efficacy, steps, METs, and MVPA, but the increase in steps, METs, and MVPA is not a result of the increase in self-efficacy.

BackgroundNew treatment modalities are needed to improve the aerobic capacity of patients with chronic heart failure (CHF) considering the increasing disease prevalence. This study was done to evaluate the effect of heart failure reversal therapy (HFRT) on exercise indices, namely VO2 max and metabolic equivalents (METs).MethodologyThis retrospective study screened data of 147 patients who had visited Madhavbaug Clinics between July 2018 and December 2018. The mean VO2 max and METs on day 30 of HFRT initiation was compared with that at baseline. Regression analysis was used to calculate the odds for increase in VO2 max and METs by HFRT, in specific comorbidity.ResultsOf the 64 patients who fit the study criteria, majority were males (n = 51) with mean age of 57.89 ± 8.14 years. The most common comorbidity was hypertension (n = 45) followed by diabetes mellitus (n = 36) and coronary artery disease (n = 27). Mean VO2 max and METs increased significantly at day 30 of HFRT initiation compared to the mean values on day 1 (P < 0.05). Odds for elevation in VO2 max and METs were maximum in patients with myocardial infarction (MI) (VO2 max: odds ratio [OR] = 4.95; confidence interval [CI] = 0.26–91.5. METs: OR = 3.46; CI = 0.18–65.54), ischemic heart disease (IHD) (VO2 max: OR = 2.85; CI = 0.32–24.7. METs: OR = 1.67; CI = 0.18–15.29), or obesity (VO2 max: OR = 2.57; CI = 0.29–22.4. METs: OR = 1.5; CI = 0.16–13.78). All odds were statistically insignificant (P > 0.05).ConclusionHFRT leads to significant increase in the VO2 max and METs in CHF patients, indicating improved aerobic capacity. PurposePremature ejaculation (PE) is a prevalent disorder in males leading to sequelae such as lack of self-confidence, anxiety, depression and unsatisfactory intercourse for these men and their partners. The aim of this study was to evaluate the relationship between ejaculation and physical activity.Materials and MethodsGroup 1 comprised 112 participants who took regular physical activity and Group 2 comprised 126 participants with a sedentary lifestyle. The participants were 18-45 years old, same ethnic origin, insame location and had regular sexual activity for at least 6 months. A comparison was made by metabolic equivalents (MET), premature ejaculation diagnostic tool (PEDT) and intravaginal ejaculatory latency time (IELT).ResultThe mean age of Groups 1 and 2 was 25.34 years (range, 18-41 years) and 28.49 years (range, 19-45 years), respectively (P = .21). The mean PEDT score was 6.18 in Group 1, and 10.02 in Group 2. Significant differences were found between Groups 1 and 2 (P = .001). The mean MET score of Group 1 was 3448.23 METmin/week (3012-4496 MET- min/week) while the MET score of Group 2 was 201.87 MET- min/week (66-744 MET- min/week) (P = .001). The mean IELT of Groups 1 and 2 were 316.42 s (120-1530 s) and 189.32 s (20-450 s), respectively. The mean IELT was significantly higher in Group 1 (P = .001).ConclusionThe study results demonstrated that PE was less frequent in men that perform regular physical activity compared to those with a sedentary lifestyle. It can be assumed that regular physical activity may be effectual in gaining a sexual life of higher quality.
