Professional Life of the Launderers: A Short Social History

Abstract:
The launderers as often known in Persian literature as professional workers occupying in washing clothes, etc., were ordinary men/women and the members of a very low-class guild, who washed and dried people's dirty clothes, in their own houses or workshops or in their employer's home or on a side of public water sources, with a low wage.Nevertheless, besides this relatively renowned function of launderers, they also formed a part of the network of division of labor in subset of dyeing activities. They cooperated in dyeing process as bleachers, by pounding, washing, fulling, decoloring and bleaching of clothes and textiles and making these materials ready for dyeing or redyeing.
