Cat and Mouse: Similar Stories in Persian Literature

The story of cat and mouse and their confrontation is a common theme in Persian literature. This story has always been popular among children and it is one of the important texts of Iranian traditional schools. Such stories have been widely reflected in Persian literature and short stories in verse and prose have been written based on this confrontation. In addition, some long stories have been written imitating Mouse and Cat by Ubayd Zakani. There are fifteen adaptations of Mouse and Cat of Zakani; Mouse and Cat of Sheikh Bahai is the most famous one.
