The necessity of using Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) on Urban Traffic Management

Transportation problems such as environmental pollution, reduction of energy resources, increase moral and material damage of casualty, monitoring and management problems in suburban transportation, increasing wasted time and rapid growth trend of demand for transportation particularly at peak hours has become serious problems. Increase in transportation facilities due to the need for capital investment and much running time faces always wide limits and it is impossible to solve the limitations of traditional methods. So in the decade of 1980, it was considered with a glance at the progress in communications technology and electronics to overcome the above problems. Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) means the use and application of new technologies in order to promote safety, efficiency and cheap transportation. According to Iran’s geographical and natural position in the field of transport should be considered Transportation and development. Traditional methods don’t have enough effect and problems like Congestion in all countries caused to more attend to Intelligent Transportation Systems. Common use of modern information technology time management and Communication networks caused to improved ITS. It is one of the most effective strategies to achieve goals. In this article is described about necessity of ITS projects and the effect of application ITS to reduce the financial load on budgeting. At the end of this paper, has proposed a model for organizational structure of the intelligent transportation systems in Iran.
