Atrial fibrillation in cattle
Author(s):
Abstract:
Electrocardiogram was recorded from all cattle referred to Teaching Hospital of Shiraz University Veterinary School for 12 months for detection of atrial fibrillation (AF). Eight cases of AF were diagnosed during this period. Six out of 8 cases had underlying gasterointestinal problems in which dysrhythmias were converted to sinus rhythm after surgical or medical treatment. In one case, macerated fetus was diagnosed and AF was converted to regular rhythm 15 days following surgery and the last case was sold so follow up study was not feasible. AF is a common dysrhythmia in dairy cows in which no anti-arrhythmic treatment is needed in most of cases.
