Complaint in Khaghani's Poetry
Author(s):
Abstract:
Complaint is a kind of lyric poetry in which the poet tries to make the reader aware of what has made him/her suffer. Based on the subject, complain is generally divided into five categories: 1) Personal 2) Social 3) philosophical 4) Political 5) Mystical. Khaghani is among the poets whose poetry is deeply concerened with the motif of grief and sadness. One can almost say for sure that complaining has a particular function in his poetry. Of his 17000 lines, almost 1000 lines (about 6%) of his whole Divan has been devoted to this issue. His poetry is not concerened with mystical complaint at all, and political complaint has the lowest frequency, while other issues are, in turn, divided into various other subdivisions. This paper is concerened with complaint and its reflection in Khaghani’s poetry.
