Predicting academic adjustment based on communication skills: the mediation role of self-efficacy

Abstract:
he main aim of this study was to investigate the mediation role of self-efficacy in predicting academic adjustment based on communication skills. The sample comprised 385 high school first graders students who were selected via cluster sampling procedure from two Education districts of Shiraz city. The research instruments were General self-efficacy, Communication skills, and Academic adjustment questionnaires. Data were analyzed using regression analysis. The overall findings indicated that communication skills were positive predictors of self-efficacy which in turn is a positive predictor of academic adjustment. In addition, communication skills via self-efficacy as a moderator variable, positively predicted academic adjustment. Also it was revealed that girls scored higher in communication skills test than boys did and there was no significant difference between boys and girls in self-efficacy and academic adjustment. The practical implications of these findings are discussed and the paper is ended with some suggestions for further research in this area.
