Efficient removal of reactive black 5 dye by functionalized SBA-15 nanoporous adsorbent

Abstract:
In this research, the removal of reactive black 5 dye by using Bis (2- hydroxy ethyl) amine functionalized nanoporous SBA-15 was investigated. The functionalized SBA-15 was synthesized according to the previous reports. Structure of nanoporous and presence of ethanolamine moiety was demonstrated by characteristic peaks in FT-IR spectrum, XRD pattern, TEM and SEM images. The N2 adsorption-desorption isotherm revealed that the adsorbent has specific surface area 480 m2/g. Dye concentration was measured by UV/visible spectrophotometer. The effect of variables such as amount of adsorbent, extraction time and pH were optimized. The dye was completely removed from 10 ml solution of 50 mg L-1 dye after 10 min using 5 mg adsorbent. The maximum capacity was found to be 270 µg/mg adsorbent. It was found that the Langmuir model describes the adsorption process appropriately. Finally, this adsorbent exhibited good efficiency to remove reactive black 5 from textile wastewater.
