Optimization of Location of Traffic Counting Points for Updating Origin- Destination Matrix Based on Multi-Objective Programming Mode

Abstract:
Estimation of Origin-Destination matrix (O-D Matrix) with applying the counted data through the traffic links could be an appropriate method to obtain how the trip distribution would be in traffic analysis zone (TAZ). The differences between the level of acquired data in links of the network and direct effect of this matter on the quality of the estimated matrix beside the budget limitations, it would be required the necessity of determining a targeted structural in locating traffic counting points. The most developed models in locating traffic counting points could be followed only one specific objective function and would be resulted the specific solution that including the set of links or nodes of the network. In this research based on new approach, with regarding to select two objective functions that necessary do not operate in the same way and using them in the multi-objective optimization problem, the new model has been developed in order to select the links of traffic counting. The proposed model by applying a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm with the title of strength pareto evolutionary algorithm (SPEA) in contrast with common models, would lead to produce a set of optimized solution that introduce the most extensive range of different combination of the traffic counting points for decision maker. It is clear that achieving this kind of set, increase the possible of correspondences of the traffic counting stations with the conditions of the network and the possibility of existing limitations. The proposed model has been evaluated during one case study and the results of it, indicated better operation in comparison with the single purpose optimization models and reflected the most extendable of network information with encompassing of less traffic counting points. Additionally, in the suggested model, attaining the desirable amount of the targeted function would be pointed out the comprehensive searching on the decision space.
