Validity and Reliability of the Persian Version of Borg RPE in Two 10-0 and 20-6 Scales

Message:
Abstract:
Background
The Borg Rating of Perceived Exertion (RPE) is a way of measuring physicalactivity intensity level. Purpose of this study is evaluation of validity and reliability the RPE scale (Persian version) based on heart rate variability in students of Isfahan University of MedicalSciences.
Methods
An interventional study conducted on 10 male students، Heart rate (HR) and RPE in two 0-10 and 6-20 RPE scale were measured in four activity levels with using treadmillmachines in the Climatic chamber (WBGT = 19. 4 ± 0. 3). Data analysis wasperformed with using Pearson Correlation test and paired-samples t -test.
Finding
The results showedthat the correlation coefficient between RPE scale with HR was respectively0. 83 and 0. 85 (p<0. 001). The correlation coefficient between RPE scale withthe difference between activity and rest heart rate (ΔHR) was respectively 0. 89and 0. 91 (p<0. 001). The two RPE scale quantities in different activity levelsin two times were not significantly different.
Conclusions
based on Results of this study، both 10 and15 point scale of rating of perceivedexertion for estimate the intensity of physical activity are valid.
