Reviewing the Possibility of Road Pavement Recycling

Given the enormous amount of annual budget spent on road maintenance, even small savings can make notable decrease in costs. The increasing importance of environmental protection and safety in designer’s concerns, has made inevitable the idea of using cheap and accessible materials which can be done through recycling pavement of old roads and reusing obtained materials in construction of new roads. This paper concentrates on usage of recycled materials in roads in order to reduce the costs while improving durability and quality of pavement. It provides a short description of road maintenance methods; by surveying the costs of construction and maintenance, tries to offer economic justification in the case of recycling the construction materials of the roads in Iran. According to the performed analyses, it was found that the usage of recycling materials of old pavements in construction of new roads can be successfully implemented.
