Evaluation of Yield and Some Drought Resistance Indices in Cumin (Cuminum Cyminum L.) Ecotypes

Abstract:
In order to study the most effective traits as well as drought tolerance indices and to introduce tolerant cumin landraces for drought conditions, a field experiment was carried out in 2011 in Kerman, Iran, using split plot design based on randomized complete block with 2 replications Drought stress was applied to nine cumin landraces at flowering stage. Some traits such as plant height, number of sub branch, number of umbels, number of seed per umbels, number of sub-umbels per umbels, thousand-seed weight, grain yield and biological yield were evaluated. The results showed that grain yield, biological yield, thousand-seed weight, plant height and number of umbels diminished under drought stress conditions. The calculated correlation coefficients as well as tolerance indices (TOL, SSI, GMP and STI) showed that Geometric Mean Productivity (GMP) and Stress Tolerance Index (STI) were the best indices for selection of tolerant landraces. Based on these two indices, landraces Pars, Khorasan Razavi, and Yazd are recommended as the tolerant landraces.
