Analytical Study of Knowledge Management In Academic Libraries (Case Study: Libraries of Ferdowsi University and Medical University of Mashhad)

This article reviews the status of knowledge management in academic libraries. The research method was survey and applied study. For collecting data a questionnaires including closed and open questions and also a checklist were used. The population society included the libraries of Ferdowsi University and Medical University of Mashhad. Knowledge management in this study includes the knowledge creation, knowledge evaluation, knowledge Representation, knowledge sharing and knowledge application. Findings indicate that in none of the libraries knowledge management applications are implemented as satisfactory, the mean point for knowledge management and its dimensions is average. From the dimension of knowledge management, knowledge Representation has the lowest and knowledge application has the highest mean. Regarding the Librarian's activities in line with individual and organizational knowledge management, including participation in formal and corporate meetings, holding training courses, participation in scientific conferences and professional and knowledge transfer and sharing in the form of paper and suggestions, the findings of open questions and checklist show that participation in these activities is too weak.Testing of the hypothesis also showed differences only between the dimensions of knowledge sharing and knowledge application in libraries of Ferdowsi University and Medical University of Mashhad at a level of 95%.
