Residue and Waste Management of Horticultural Products in Mansour-Aghaei Village of Ravansar County
Abstract:
This qualitative study, conducted in 2010-11 in Ravansar county of Kermanshah province of Iran, aims at determining effective strategies of waste management in horticultural production. A group of horticulturists is selected through a purposive sampling and the data are collected using focus group discussions and deep interviews and analyzed by using grounded theory approach. As revealed by the results, several factors are involved in producing the horticultural wastes, including lack of awareness and experience of horticulturists, pests and diseases, environmental challenges, financial burden, and lack of labor. Horticulturists tend to use production wastes and residues in animal nutrition, soil fertility, and fuel. Dumping is also practiced against excessive wastes while these could be used as compost in various forms.
