Environment in Higher Education: Assessment of Environmental Knowledge Students in the State Universities of Mazandaran and Related Factors

The higher education institution is an institution that expected to provide the necessary training, knowledge and attitude necessary for the protection of the environment to provide for students. Since any necessary planning and delivering effective training requires knowledge of the existing situation, this paper evaluates student's environmental knowledge and its relation to social factors is discussed. In this survey, 400 students using simple random sampling were selected from seven state universities in Mazandaran province. This study used survey method and a questionnaire to collect information. The resulting data were extracted and processed using SPSS statistical software. Research findings show that student's environmental knowledge is relatively high, but the amount varies depending on the type of faculty. As college students of engineering sciences, medical sciences and natural resources in the field of environment have a higher ranking. Also, the results showed that environmental knowledge is also different in terms of gender. Finally, the research findings indicate that there is a significant positive relationship between the attitude of family into the environment, information sources(television) and the economic and social status of students. Based on the descriptive and inferential finding, environmental knowledge’ students in relatively good but its distribution is not uniform. And the assumption that students dependent to environmental sciences have higher environmental knowledge was also adopted in this study. Therefore, the need for effective inclusion of environmental education in the higher education system makes it more prominent. The use of visual media and learning in the family makes it easier.
