Study of MDD epidemiology in students of middle school (11-16 yrs. old) Of Esfahan city in 2007-8

Aim and
Background
Today depression is more common disorder in all of world. Depression present in all ages & all races in both men & women. Studies show depression has increased prevalence in adolescent. Some researchers believe MDD (that influence function) under diagnosed & treatment in adolescent. More researches are needed to understand MDD prevalence in adolescent.we studied MDD prevalence in adolescent in students of middle school in this research.Methods and Materials: This descriptive study was done on 1606 pupil of 11-16 old ages boys & girls of middle school of Esfahan city by cluster sampling. CDI questionnaire was done for all of them.(cut off =19)
Findings
The mine of number of all pupil was 13.46 & standard deviation was 7.32.Over all 353pupil (22 percent) has MDD. prevalence rate MDD in girls pupil (24.2 percent) were more than boys (19.8 percent) significantly (p<0.05).
Conclusions
This study was showed prevalence of MDD in adolescents of Esfahan is a few above some other area of world.
