The Effect of Social Control on the Attitude of 18-29 year old Youth toward Consumption of Stimulants in Behbahan City

Abstract:
The aim of this article was to investigate the effect of social control on the attitudes of young people 18-29 year old Youth, toward consumption of stimulants in Behbahan City. Sample size was 384 young people in the city that selected by using cluster sampling. Data were collected using a researcher- made questionnaire based on the background information. Hirsch's theory about social control has been used in this study, which was designed based on four assumptions. Results showed that there are a significant inverse relationship between the pattern of family control, commitment, devotion to family, the busy work in day and night as independent variables and consumption of stimulants as a dependent variable. But there is a significant direct relationship between religious beliefs and attitudes of young people to stimulants. Through the stepwise multiple regression method all of independent variables were explained 38% of the variance of attitude toward stimulants.
