A Study on the Quality Of Life in Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery Patients

Background And Objective
Today, Coronary Artery Bypass Graft (CABG) is one of the most common treatments for coronary heart diseases that can cause serious side effects, and disrupt the quality of life. Considering the importance of quality of life and the increasing prevalence of cardiovascular diseases, this study was performed to compare quality of life before and after surgery in patients undergoing coronary artery bypass graft surgery in Ahvaz, Iran. Methods
This cross-sectional study was conducted in Naft Hospital, Ahvaz in 2013, in which 100 patients underwent the coronary artery bypass graft surgery were selected as simple sampling. The data were collected using SF-36 questionnaire in a day before and three months after surgery, and analyzed by SPSS 20, t-test and correlation coefficient.
Results
Three months after surgery, the patient's quality of life was significantly improved (P<0.001). In addition, except in mental health dimension (P = 0.32), in other aspects of quality of life, a significant increase was observed (P < 0.05).
Conclusion
Despite the positive effects of CABG surgery on quality of life in patients with coronary artery disease, the psychological aspects did not show significant improvement. Further studies are needed to identify the causes and propose effective solutions.
