Birds, their Descriptive Images and their Symbols in Shahnameh

Author(s):
Abstract:
One area of Shahnameh research is the study of birds, their descriptive images, and their symbols in the Sage of Toos’s ideas. Birds have always had an important position in Persian poetry and Ferdowsi’s interest in birds has always been spoken of. Ferdowsi’s use of birds and their symbolic values have been so profound and extensive that no other work can be compared with it in this respect. The present article tries to introduce birds, their symbols, and their descriptive images in Ferdowsi’s ideas in order to show that the birds in Shahnameh enjoy implicit and covert concepts. Each one of them has its own symbols and is shrouded in mysteries that have to be discovered.
