Use of complementary and alternative mediecine methods and its related factors in person referred to health centers in khorramabad

In modern societies acceptability of treatment with complementary medicine has increased overtime. The purpose of this study was to determine the use of alternative and complementary medicine and its related factorsin residents of the Khorramabad city. This cross-sectional study was carried out using multi stage sampling method on 790 person over 15-year-old clients referring to a number of health and treatment centers and hospitals in Khorramabad town in 1393 (2014 A.D). Data collection, was self-made questionnaire to be confirmed of the validity and reliability. The information of questionnaire included demographic data on individual characteristic, using different kinds of complementary medicine until then and in the recent year and the level of satisfaction of these methods. Chi-square testwas used to data Analysis. In this study 790 subjects were surveyed using the questionnaire. The mean age of the study participants was 38.9±9.8 years.79.8% of the subjects had used at least one of the methods of complementary medicine. Among the participants, 58.2 %had used at least one of the complementary medicine in the previous year. Herbal medicine and prayers treatment had the highest use with 69.2% and 37.2%, respectively. The least used methods were chiropractics (0.8%), homeopathy (0.9%), and hypnotism (1.4%). Obesity (15.8%), migraine (14%) and arthritis (10.8%) were the most prevalent problems for which the participants resorted to complementary medicine. Given the high prevalence use of variety of complementary medicine methods, ensurethe effectiveness of these methods especially Herbal medicine for preventing and treating diseasesis Necessary.
