Using Symbols of Quran in Contemporary Poem of Palestine (Joseph's Character)

Symbols continue to play effective roles in interpretive literature, imagery and deviations from norm. Therefore, contemporary poets have turned to using symbols, as a last resort, to avoid sloganism and escape censorship. Accordingly, it’s safe to argue that one motive for the use of symbols by Palestinian poets has been to indirectly express their ideas and feelings. Using this strategy, poets uncover the true stories behind events symbolically in order to enrich their poetic concepts as well as to provide a description of the political and social situations of their society and of their inner feelings. Religious symbols have been more evident in comparison to epical symbols among Palestinian poets for these poets’ special emphasis on the fruitful Quran culture. Specifically, Joseph’s character has been more attended and more frequently used by Palestinian poets than other symbols, because of its potential for being more in line with their inner experiences. Findings indicate recalling Josephs’ character in Palestinian poems has highlighted concepts such as resistance, endurance and hope for freedom in the face of difficult crises. This research used a descriptive and analytical methodology to answer the following questions: A-What is a symbol and its effect on the poetic language?B-What are the most important motivations behind a symbolic use of Joseph’s character by Palestinian poets?
