Investigation and Comparison Assortative Mating Theory among Students

Around the world, selecting a mate is a decision of great importance that most humans make at least once in their lives. The research aim to investigation and comparison the approach of assortative mating among students. This current is descriptive-analytical. 207 students were selected among Payamenoor Sari University students using multi-stage randomly sampling method, and completed the NEO-FFI-SELF Personality Inventory and Ideal Romantic Partner Personality Inventory. The data analysis was doing using Pearson correlation coefficient method, and independent t-test and by SPSS-16 software. The results indicated that individuals desire mates who are similar to themselves with regard to their personality in terms of the Five Factor Model (neuroticism, extrovert, openness, consciousness, and agreeableness). And also there were significant differences between male and female students in selecting ideal mate partner. Overall, these findings supported assortative mating theories in mate selection.
