Transient Response Control of First Order Plants
Author(s):
Abstract:
In many industrial plants, reaching a non-overshooting transient response is important. In this paper, the PID controller is designed to achieve a stable closed loop transfer function with non-overshooting step response. To reach this goal, the PID controller parameters are adjusted to attain a monotonically decreasing frequency response magnitude. This results in a non-overshooting or minimum-overshoot closed loop system step response. Thus, 3-D regions are obtained in the parametric space such that the resultant closed loop system with theses parameters is stable and its transient response has no overshoot. Obviously, a variety of controllers could be chosen in the mentioned region. Simulation results are given to show the effectiveness of the proposed method.
