Shalmaghani's al-Taklif: Its Position and Historical Development

As long as Shalmaghani (d. 322 AH) was a trustworthy disciple of Husein-ibn-Rooh, his book, Al-Taklif was paid attention to by Shias from the beginning, and was found in every home; but when Shalmaghani’s heretical thoughts revealed, the credibility of his book was questioned. Therefore, it was studied and endorsed by Husein-Ibn-Rooh except for a few traditions; therefore, then Shiite scholars began to discredit it, for they considered him as devoid of merit required. Having surveyed the jurisprudential works of Shiite scholars, this article shows that they had not ignored Shalmaghani’s Al-Taklif throughout their studies on Islamic jurisprudence, using it expressively with full recognition of him, at least up to the 10th century (A.H).
