Elegy of Imam Hossein (AS) in Andalusian Arabic poetry

This paper aims to study the elegiac poetry for Imam Hossein (AS) and its features in the Andalusian period. In this research, we study and analyze these poems by the method of giving the different poetical evidence of Ashura elegists in Andalusia for Imam Hossein (AS) in Andalusian Arabic poetry. The elegiac poetry of Imam in Andalusia represents the love and amity of the people there, especially its poets and writers toward Ahlul Bayt (AS). Structures and themes of this kind of poetry demonstrate the imitation and adoption from the eastern poets, but the poets of that land were able to create formats and structures that impress the audiences by their illustrations and innovations influenced by the literary, social and political situations. Sometimes, the elegy of Imam is manifested in the forms of acrostics, Muhkhammas and Tasdis taken from the odes of other poets which may indicate the fact that the Shi’ite poets of that land paid attention to the elegy of Imam in new and innovative formats invented in those days.
