New Areas of Islamic Studies (1): Islamic Archaeology

One of the areas of Islamic studies that is considered suitable for interdisciplinary research is Islamic archeology. The author of the following paper explores the content of four research works in the field of Islamic archeology. The first work talks about the identity, nature, and purpose of Islamic archeology. The second one is about Ilka Linstedt’s article in which four ancient inscriptions in Kufic Arabic, being recently found in Jordan, are analyzed. The third work is about the analysis and interpretation of the Islamic (Arabic) ring which belongs to the Viking Age, and was found in Birka (Sweden). And finally, the last work is about Esām Abdorahmān’s Ph.D. thesis in which the influence of hadith on the architecture of the first Islamic mosques is studied.
