The Semantic of the Arrogance (استکبار) in the Noble Quran

One of the new fields in some extent in the area of linguistic study is the method of semantic which its most usage is in analyzing the texts and understanding their structures. The noble Quran because of being divine text and kept away from human current carelessness and faults has more valid than other texts. Therefore, examining the text structure and the usage way of vocabularies in this divine Book can be appropriate method to perceive the accurate meaning of them. With applying the descriptive semantic, this research aims to determine the more accurate meaning of arrogance (استکبار) in the noble Quran. Consequently the concept of “arrogance” has been examined besides the vocabularies which are its collocations in the different Quranic verses and chapters. With regarding this, meanwhile representing the selected definition of “arrogance” with the usage of its collocations, the concepts like tyranny (عتو), pride (غرور) and not believing to life after death as the roots and causes of “arrogance” and also the concepts like haughtiness (علو), refusal (استنکاف), disbelief (کفر) and cruelty (ظلم) as a consequence and result of arrogance according to its usage in the noble Quran has been known. The linguistic examination of the vocabularies of the mentioned collation presents that “arrogance” in the noble Quran is resulted from meeting of three currents: belief current (negation life after death), spiritual current (superiority complex) and at the end sociological current (luxury and negation of reality).
