Exploring the Role of cyber space in moral security

Nowadays, there are a variety of communication technology such as chat rooms which have many functions for communication among people, communities and information exchanges. Although chat room technology has many benefits, it has brought about many threats and dangers in different fields, specifically cultural and moral dangers. This study aims mainly to identify and explain the role of cyber space in moral security emphasizing the role of chat rooms from chat room users’ views. This is an applied research objectively and a survey study methodologically. The population includes all internet users in Tehran café nets who sampled through multi-stage cluster sampling. Then, a questionnaire used to collect data. Findings of the study showed that there were 5 factors influencing on the showing interests toward using chat rooms and its moral security consequences. They are speech freedom in chat room communications, anonymity in chat rooms, chat room user friendliness, Traditional-minded families (generation gap), and lack of legislation dealing with offenders in online environment all of them contribute to the violation of moral security in the society. Furthermore, anonymity, lack of legislation dealing with offenders in online environment, and Traditional-minded families are more significant in moral security dilemma than others.
