Improving the performance of food packaging films by using silane adhesion promotors

Flexographic printing is introduced as the most widely technology in packaging, but the quality of flexographic products is less than offset printing. One of the most important issues that threaten the quality of flexographic printing is weak adhesion of flexography ink to the substrate, especially polyolefin substrate. Organic silanes are environmentally friendly compounds that among properties of organic silanes can note to adhesion promotion, increasing resistance to water, Preventability that they are used to improve foor safety in the packaging, ink, paint, food and beverages industries. In addition to adhesion promotion, organic silanes can control and decrease of growth and adhesion of microorganism. Among of surfaces that treating by organic silanes can note to metals, plastics, glass, ceramics, rubber, polyester, polyurethane, polyacrylic, phenolic and melamine resins and polycarbonate. Optimization of formulation due to the high price of organic silanes is so matter. This paper review chemistry, features and applications of organic silanes in different industries. The purpose of this study is identification and distribution the opportunities and take advantage of organic silane to enhance adhesion in film packaging and decrease microbial adhesion.
