Quality Improvement Design of Educational Spaces Based on the Needs of Students with Mobility Impairments (Case study: Taha School in Isfahan)

Abstract:
Objective
In architecture of schools, it's necessary to pay attention to the desires and needs of the members and it is achieved through designing the details of the spaces based on the behavioral and motional patterns of the students. The purpose of this study is to pay attention to the necessity of designing the educational centers for students with mobility impairment and to increase the quality of such centers according to the special educational needs of these students.
Methods
In this paper, Taha School in Isfahan was studied under field analysis. This paper tries to analyze the spaces of the mentioned school via comparison with the global standards and then suggests suitable solutions to improve the quality of these schools.
Results
The results include the latest global standards for designing schools of physically impaired kids, their comparison with the current situation at the studied school and understanding the strong and weak points of that design. The most important results are exhibited as tables, charts and numbers.
Conclusion
The results of the present study showed that the mobility impaired students have educational needs such as specific space standards, suitable furniture and equipment, spaces with wider dimensions, durable materials and etc which should be included in designing of their schools. The results of this study include: suggesting small-spaces and their plans, applications, required dimensions, furniture and etc in order to design educational spaces for mobility impaired persons with intention of improving the quality of these spaces.
