Comparison the Effect of Listening to the Holy Quran and Aromatherapy on Anxiety before Cardiac Catheterization

Most of the patients hospitalized for cardiac catheterization have anxiety. Using the complementary therapies could improve patients’ anxiety. This study aimed to investigate and compare the effect of Holy Quran and aromatherapy on patients’ anxiety before cardiac catheterization.
In this clinical trial 60 patients waiting for cardiac catheterization conveniently sampled and randomly allocated to the Holy Quran and aromatherapy groups. In the Holy Quran group patients listened to the voice of Yasin sorea for 18 minutes. In the aromatherapy group patients inhaled the essence of Rosa for 18 minutes. The level of anxiety was measured before, and after the study. Data were analyzed using Chi‑square, paired t‑test and independent t‑tests.
In the Holy Quran group the mean scores of state, trait and total anxiety were significantly lowered in the stage before the intervention compared to the stage after the intervention (p0.05). Furthermore, after the intervention the mean scores of state, trait and total anxiety were significantly lower in the Holy Quran group compared to the aromatherapy group (p The Holy Quran compare to the aromatherapy is effective in improving the state, trait and total anxiety.
