A Comparative Study of the Methods for Covering the News Related to Environment Reflected at the Cyber Mainstream and Citizen Media

Abstract:
Having intended to study the degree and kind of environmental events coverage- case study: the fires at northern forests in Iran- the current research was done to compare the news coverage methods in Cyber Mainstream and Citizen Media. The method of content analysis was selected as the best way to reach the answers while the media messages were reviewed for their qualities and quantities. At first, all the published news in IRNA, MEHR news agencies and environmental web logs which were active on messages related to the fires at the northern forests were gathered. Then, all the items and sub items in the reverse questionnaire were derived and recorded in the table for code deriving. Finally, the codes were recorded as research data by SPSS and the descriptive and reasoning tables and charts were obtained by this software. Based on the information, the results and findings of the research indicated that there is a meaningful relationship between the news styles and kind of the media. Also, there is a meaningful relationship between the media and selection of news values on covering the events of firings at northern forests, between media( mainstream and citizen )and kind of news direction( public, governmental), between media kind( mainstream and citizen) and the framework for news coverage (interview, report, analysis, pictorial report).
