Abstract:
The study considers the media system in the Scandinavian countries, including the press and broadcast media, publications and news agencies. It also addresses the world's first freedom of information act (FOIA), which is adopted by the Swedish parliament in 1766, describing its core features.
The research then focuses on governing rules and regulations for broadcast media, including Radio and Television in three Scandinavian countries, namely Sweden, Denmark and Norway, by comparing certain aspects of those regulations.
The study shows that the Scandinavian countries have similarities in their approach towards the media. All the three countries have recently revised their relevant broadcast media act, either a lisence or registration is necessary for TV and Radio broadcasters, and the ministry of culture is in charge of the implementation. The broadcast operations are financed by radio and TV fees paid by citizens according to the Act on Financing of Public Service Radio and Television.
