A Comparative Study of the Structure of the Corner Medallion Pattern in Azerbaijan and Fars Qashqais Rugs

Corner Medallion design is among the designs that as in other regions has been applied on Azerbaijan rugs and Fars Qashqais. The rugs of these two regions have similarities and differences due to the structure of this type of design. In addition to learn how to design corner medallion rugs of these regions, Study of these structural characteristics can help to identify and evaluate of visuals features in their rugs.This research that has been done with the aim of recognition and introduction of the structural characteristics of Corner Medallion design in the rugs of these two regions tried to explore the probable influence of the design structure of Corner Medallion in Qashqais rugs from Corner Medallion design in Azerbaijan rugs and especially determine that part of structure of this design which has been most represented. For this purpose, in this research that is descriptive -comparative and its information has been collected on the basis of library research, with selection of ones that have been more compatible with each other, we have chosen five rugs from each of the above mentioned regions (totally ten examples) and we have compared and evaluated together.The study of chosen examples shows in spite of some extant differences among the design structure of Corner Medallion in these two regions, there are impressive similarities among the rugs of two regions in design structure of Corner Medallion including number, form and medallion type ;design structure of Corner Medallion including form and Corners type and harmony between Corner Medallion designs in form, size and the motifs that exist in them.
