Iran Policies and Economic challenges during the Great Depression of 1929: an archival study

The Pahlavi regime was the inheritor of a bankrupt and disorganized economic system. In order to prevent the devaluation of the national currency (Qeran), the Iranian government imposed a balance of imports and exports to reform and modernize the national economy. However, the outbreak of the Great Depression in 1929 caused the government and the parliament to implement alternative economic policies for a period of time. This study has investigated these policies.
Method/Research Design: this study has been carried out through the analysis of the data derived from the commercial and financial statistics.
Findings: the analysis of the tables and charts relating to both pre and post Trade Monopoly Law indicates from import and export data that the policy was relatively successful in creating a positive trade balance. The prices of imported major items show that the government's policy to maintain stability and prevent inflation was successful.
