Relationship between perfectionism and social-anxiety in regard to self-esteem role as a mediator among the third grade high school students in Shiraz

Abstract:
The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between perfectionism and social anxiety due to the mediating role of self-esteem among third grade high school students. Thus among male and female third grade high school students in four district of education in 2011-2012 in Shiraz. Using multiple stage cluster random sampling method the sample size was 222 (115 female, 107 male) were selected and using Jerabek social anxiety scale (JSAS) (1996), self-esteem (Rosenberg, 1965) and multidimensional perfectionism scale (Hewitt and Flett, 1991), were tested. Using simultaneous multiple regression analysis and Bar on and Kenny methods (1986), were analyzed. Results showed that socially prescribed perfectionism was positive predictor of social anxiety. Socially oriented perfectionism was negative predictor and self-oriented perfectionism was positive predictor of self-esteem. Self-esteem as a mediator played a role in relation to socially oriented perfectionism and social anxiety.
