Microwave Sintering of MgxAl2(1-x)Ti(1+x)O5 Ceramics
Author(s):
Abstract:
In this study, we prepared aluminum titanate ceramics containing various amounts of magnesium oxide (0.7 wt.%) using microwave heating at temperatures between 1250 °C and 1400 °C in air. The effect of MgO content variation (0.7 wt.%) and sintering temperature was investigated on the phase formation. Moreover thermal stability evaluated at 1100 °C for 50 and 100 h. The results showed that microwave sintering caused to tialite formation at relatively low temperature. Furthermore, the addition of MgO has a significant role on the reaction progress. The composition containing 7 wt.% MgO exhibit highest density (95% theory density). Samples including MgO showed improved thermal stability at 1100 °C even after annealing for 100 h.
