The relationship between emotional intelligence and personality traits and job satisfaction in Tehran Electricity Power Distribution Company staff

Abstract:
The present study tries to investigate the relationship between emotional intelligence and job satisfaction among Electricity Distribution Company employees of Tehran city. The design of the study is of retrospective descriptive correlational type. In order to collect the data for the three intended variables, the researcher used the Bar-On 90-item Emotional Intelligence Inventory, Eysenck’s 57-item Personality Questionnaire and Herzberg’s36-item Job Satisfaction questionnaire. 274 participants were chosen based on cluster sampling. The result of the study shows that coefficient of determination of job satisfaction through emotional intelligence and personality characteristics in a sample of male employees is (R2=0/58), and among females employees it is (R2=0/44) and generally among all employees it equals (R2=0/49). The results of beta coefficient revealed that emotional intelligence has more predictive power than personality characteristics in predicting male and female employees’ job satisfaction.
