The Use of Theory in The Library and Information Science Quarterly Journal from March 2010 to March 2015

Abstract:
INTRODOCTION:The importance of theory in scientific fields such as knowledge and information science (IS) is known well. This study reports the use of theory in the Library and Information Science quarterly Journal during March 2010 to March 2015.
Methodology
In the Current study, questions were investigated by conducting a content analysis of 212 articles that appeared from March 2010 to March 2015 in the Library and Information Science quarterly Journal. Word as the unit records paper as the unit of analysis. Each theory was counted only once per article. Data were gathered by a checklist.
FINDINGS:Findings indicated that theory was discussed in 65% of the articles (1.7% theory incidents per article, 2.68% incidents per article when considering only those articles employing theory). The majority of these theories were from the humanities and social sciences (143) followed by IS (52), and the sciences and engineering (62).
Conclusions
Compared to the previous studies, our results suggest an increase in the use of theory in the Library and Information Science quarterly journal.
