Analysis of Factors Influencing Gender Inequality among Poor Farmer's Households: The Case of Rural Areas in Sarvestan County, Fars Province

Abstract:
Eradication of poverty has always been one of the most important aims of sustainable rural development. Poverty has gender-based dimension and gender inequality is one of the most important aspects of poverty. Gender inequality is a complex concept which includes subjective and objective facets. This concept is affected and/or formed based on community member's believes and has a great impact on living standards of community members. In this regard, analysis of factors influencing gender inequality among poor farmers’ households was determined as the main purpose of the present research. The statistical population of the study consisted the poor farmers’ households in rural areas of Sarevestan County in Fars Province (N=480). Totally, 215 households were selected as a sample group using Krejcie and Morgan's sampling table and stratified random sampling method. Research findings revealed that variables like gender stereotypes, gender socialization, men's perception about ability to control the resources and, women's perception about ability to control the resources positively and significantly correlated with gender inequality. While, men's attitude towards the share of women in resources control revealed a negative and significant correlation with gender inequality.
