Experimental Investigation of Reinforced Concrete Columns Consisting of Overlap Spliced and Forge Welded Steel Bars Under Uniaxial Load with Tied Stirrups

Abstract:
In this paper, four short reinforced comcrete (RC) columns with circular section has been built at university lab that are classified in one group. The group consists of columns with stirrups along their height related to Iran Concrete Code (ABA). In this group, two columns consist of forge welded steel bars at mid-height and their bottom, and two others contain overlap spliced at the same locations. To record displacements, tension and strain of steel bars and concrete for ever step of uniaxial loading, different types of gauges has been installed at different places. For monitoring purpose, the gauges are connected to Data Logger and computer for further analysis. The results of monitoring and the theoretical works are shown that, specially in earthquake zones, overlap splice acts satisfactorily in compare to forge welded steel bars although, both methods of forge and splicing have same behavior in service loads.
