Mental Health of Applicant Couples for Assisted Reproductive Techniques of In vitro fertilization, Intrauterine Insemination, and Intra-Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection

Abstract:
Infertility is a personal crisis. Infertile couples have greater stressors and mental disorders. The present study was carried out to compare of mental health in infertile couples with those in fertile couples. This project was a descriptive corss sectional study. Thirty seven infertile couples undergoing assisted reproductive techniques of in vitro fertilization (IVF), intrauterine insemination (IUI), and intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) were selected by non-random convenient sampling from the cases admitted to Rooyan Infertility Clinic. They completed demographic information sheet, and General Health Questionnaire-28 (GHQ-28). Results demonstrated that the infertile couples had significant difference in the social function disorder as compared to fertile couples. Infertile females had significant difference in the somatic syndrome as compared to infertile males.Infertile males had significant difference in the social function disorder and depression syndrome as compared to fertile males. Longtudinal planning of mental health services for infertile couples specially infertile females,identify high risk couples,their refferal to psychological assessment and consulting,psychotherapy and drug therapy are suggested.
