Moral Panic in Modern world: Investigation of Relationship Between Religious Commitment and SocioEconomic Status with Moral Panic

The present study aims to examine the Historical and Experimental of moral panic and its relationship with some modern phenomena in Iranian society. The population included 185 person who were selected through stratified random sampling. The applicants completed religious commitment inventory (Worthingtonet at al. 2003), the questionnaire of socioeconomic base (Nabavi et al. 2008), and moral panic (Shahabi, 2008). The data were analyzed through descriptive statistics and regression analysis. The results showed that age, religiousness has a positive and significant relationship with moral panic in a manner that they could predict it while the socio-economic class was reported as having a negative and significant relationship with moral panic for which predicted reversely. In addition, findings showed that moral panic could be considered as a main technique for competing with rivals. Moreover, it was revealed that regarding the role of age and tendency that young generation has towards modern phenomena especially the media, it could be said that identifying intergenerational differences, the position of media in promoting ethics in the young and providing them with an appropriate cultural setting can considerably affect and enhance the status quo of the society in Iran.
