Evaluation of Herpes Simplex Virus IgG Specific Antibody and high-sensitivity C-Reactive Protein Levels in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease

Abstract:
Background And Aims
Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a major cause of mortality worldwide. Infectious agents such as herpes simplex virus (HSV) may be implicated in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. The aim of this study was to survey the prevalence of IgG antibodies against HSV in patients with coronary artery disease and to determine the mean of high-sensitivity C-reactive protein(hs-CRP) in these patients.
Materials And Methods
40 patients being evaluated for atherosclerosis by coronary angiography along with 40 healthy individuals as a control group were examined in this research. Assessment of hs-CRP was carried out by nephelometry and virus-specific IgG antibodies by Enzyme-linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA).
