Iranian Identity at Literary-Historical Works during the Ilkhanid Era

Abstract:
The Mongol conquest of Iran is amongst the darkest times (events) of this country. This invasion was seriously threatening to Iranian identity. So far that some of its major characteristics were damaged and some entirely disappeared. Following this threat, Iranian identity practiced to revival itself and survive through the pressure and threats of the Ilkhanid dynasty. A part of this effort was made by the writers of literary–historical works during the era. Ilkhanid literary-historical works not only are firsthand sources of historical information and contain significant literary value but were able to play an important role in the reconstruction of Iranian identity as Ilkhanid after a while reconstructed Iranian identity and tried to compensate the demolish of the past.
In this research the destructive impact of Mongol invasion was studied based on four factors including: civilization works, kingdom, Islam and Persian language and literature. Then the positive impression of these factors on Iranian identity was investigated, results of this research show that these text were more effective on restoring Iranian identity among the other influential factors.
