Comparison of The Effectiveness of Non-Computerized Blended Training Package of Working Memory and Selective Attention with Captain Log?s Package on the Components of Executive Function in Patients with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy

This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of the non-computerized blended learning package of working memory and selective attention with that of Captain’s Log software on the components of executive functions associated with epilepsy.

The present study was a quasi- experimental proposal with non- randomized targeted sampling (pretest-posttest) for control group. A sample of 150 subjects (statistical population) aged 13-15 years old with temporal lobe epilepsy referring to neurology clinics was selected randomly in two experimental groups (each group, 15 patients) and one control group (15 patients). The non- computerized package was trained in 15 sessions (for 4 weeks, one hour each) to the first experimental group and the computerized package was also trained in 15 sessions (for 4 weeks, 45 min each) to the second experimental group, while the control group didn’t receive training. The pre- tests, post- test and follow ups were received 3 months after post- test for all three groups based on the different software versions on the evaluation of executive functions.

The analysis of variance repeated measuring represented a significant difference in the mean score of the dependent variables in the first experimental group compared to the second experimental group and the control group (P < 0.05).

Conclusions suggested that the non- computerized package of working memory and selective attention had a better effect on the components of executive functions than that of captain’s Log computerized package.
