Comparison of Medication Errors According to Circadian Personality Types in Nurses Working in Departments of Children
In the health system, due to the continuous and day-to-day operation of the system, its staff, especially nursing staff, is fatigued in many cases. And this can increase the likelihood of medication errors. Since the characteristics of the circadian personality types can affect their behavior and performance, this research was conducted to compare the level of medication errors according to personality types in nurses working in children's departments. Material & Method: This descriptive-correlational study was performed on 190 nurses working in children's departments of hospitals affiliated to Lorestan University of Medical Sciences in 2017. Convenient sampling method, quota sampling was used for sampling. For data collection, standard questionnaires of Horn and Stiberg personality type and medication errors were used.
The results of Kruskal-Wallis test indicated that there was a significant relationship between the morningness-eveningness personality type with nurses' medication errors (p<0. 05 and Kruskal-Wallis= 9. 978). Nurses’ medication error rates with an evening personality type were higher than those of the morning and circadian personality types.
The results of the research indicated that in choosing the staff shift and planning human resources in the sections,So Shifts in accordance with the type of personality and human resource planning in sectors considered as a factor in medication errors.
