The comparison of profile and personality traits in the female students with and without suicidal thoughts
Many researchers indicated the relation of suicide with mood disorders. The aim of this study was to compare profile and personality traits of the students with and without suicidal ideation.
In a causal-comparative study, based on Morgan table, 396 undergraduate students (single= 289 and married= 107), were selected via a multi-stage cluster sampling. All the students completed the Beck Scale for Suicide Ideation, the short form MMPI, and NEO FF-I. Data was analyzed using MANOVA by SPSS software.
The results showed that students without suicidal ideation in comparison with those with suicidal ideation, are more extroversion and liar, and also the K factor is higher among them (p<0.001). Moreover, a wide range of factors such as social-mental deviations, hypochondria, paranoia, hysteria, hypomania, mental weakness, depression, and schizophrenia had significantly (p<0.001) higher scores among the students with suicidal thoughts.
The profile and personality traits were different among students with and without suicidal ideation. This can be important in the prediction and investigation of suicidal ideation on the basis of personality variables
